Clerical jobs remain among the most exposed to generative AI

An ILO assessment of tasks across occupations highlights clerical work while noting changes in technical and professional roles.

The ILO's revised 2025 occupational exposure index combines task evidence, worker views, expert input and AI-based assessment. It finds that clerical work remains strongly exposed, while roles involving specialist digital tasks have become more exposed.

Its global estimate is that roughly one in four workers are in occupations with some generative-AI exposure. That is not a forecast that one in four jobs will be lost.

RoleOak takeaway: a job title is only the start. Look at the particular tasks, level of responsibility and local employer conditions before deciding how to prepare.
